About

Vertigo Power of Balance
creates a meeting place for people with various physical abilities, disabled and non-disabled, through movement, contact and improvisation.

Established in 2000 and directed by Hai Cohen and Tali Wertheim the Power of Balance center operates from the Vertigo Eco-Art Village home of the acclaimed Vertigo Dance Company offering comprehensive integrated dance activities that include annual programs, classes, workshops and performances in Israel and abroad.

The unique approach of integrated Contact Improvisation allows for a direct physical encounter through spontaneous dance. While exploring contact, direction, gravitation and momentum, participants are given the opportunity to experience an especially attentive communication through the senses emphasizing their common ability to fully express themselves through dance.

Background

The overwhelming success of the Vertigo Dance Company’s 2001 production of The Power of Balance (choreographed by Adam Benjamin ) indicated a growing demand for further development in the field of integrated dance for able and disabled dancers. Hai Cohen and Tali Wertheim who participated in the creation of the original production joined hands to fulfill this mission and over the years they have led numerous integrated dance programs which included various workshops and stage productions in Israel and abroad (U.S.A, Ireland, Latvia, Ukraine, Ethiopia, France, Germany and Turkey).

Since 2008, the Vertigo Eco-Art Village at the heart of Israel has become the center for the Power of Balance programs and activities. This accessible site accommodates many integrated groups offering a wholesome experience of routine practice enhanced by deep ecological values and a strong link to nature.
