By Jessica Steinberg"},"content":{"rendered":"<header>\n<h2 class=\"underline\">Short snippets of performances and virtual workshops are part of viewing experience as veteran dance group navigates the pandemic<\/h2>\n<div class=\"under-headline\">\n<div class=\"wrap-byline\"><span class=\"byline\">By\u00a0<a title=\"Jessica Steinberg\" href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/writers\/jessica-steinberg\/\">JESSICA STEINBERG<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"date\">27 December 2020, 4:38 pm<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"comments\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/dance-isnt-simple-to-show-online-but-vertigo-troupe-tries-it\/#comments\">0<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"media media-video\">\n<div class=\"video-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"LEELA - trailer (3&quot;)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cnuLhS-O0QQ?feature=oembed&amp;showinfo=0&amp;rel=0&amp;modestbranding=1\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<div class=\"the-content\">\n<p>During the months of the pandemic, the Vertigo Dance Company has performed online, at a drive-in event in a Jerusalem parking lot, and in small, outdoor workshops at its eco-art village in the Ella Valley.<\/p>\n<p>Now it has returned online for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vertigo.org.il\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vertigo Dance Festival<\/a>, starting Sunday, December 27 through December 31, with a brand-new website meant to ease viewing for all audiences.<\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-336x280_Middle_1\" class=\"banner 336x280_Middle_1 \" data-google-query-id=\"CKGq5OGCt-4CFdNQGwodYGMDiw\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/3933714\/TOI_Desktop\/336x280_Middle_1_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Dance isn\u2019t so simple to show online, said Noa Wertheim, who co-founded Vertigo with her work and life partner, Adi Sha\u2019al, and it required a different approach in order to fully introduce the Vertigo experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-promo\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/signup\/?utm_source=toi-articles&amp;utm_medium=middle-link&amp;utm_campaign=signup-buttons\">Get The Times of Israel&#8217;s Daily Edition by email and never miss our top stories<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/signup\/?utm_source=toi-articles&amp;utm_medium=middle-link&amp;utm_campaign=signup-buttons\">FREE SIGN UP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re showing shorter pieces and snippets online, allowing you to really jump around the website and get to know the troupe better,\u201d said Wertheim. \u201cYou can really dive into the website, and get to know Vertigo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019ve made other adjustments to the website as well, with some excerpts of workshops during the festival, a clip of Wertheim\u2019s TEDx talk, a look at recent dance premieres, and a random navigator on the site that brings viewers to various spots in the website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"fi_inContectMark\">\u201cIt\u2019s dynamic and educational and really amazing,\u201d said Wertheim.<\/p>\n<p class=\"fi_inContectMark\">The Vertigo troupe has been able to continue functioning for the most part, said Wertheim, because many of their members live and work at the troupe\u2019s eco-art village.<\/p>\n<p class=\"fi_inContectMark\">During the months of the pandemic, they continued premiering new works, sometimes on Zoom, at other times performing live with other online festivals. They even taught a workshop for an event in India.<\/p>\n<p class=\"fi_inContectMark\">\u201cWe\u2019re a capsule,\u201d said Wertheim, using the Israeli term for a small pod of people. \u201cWe did what we could during the summer, but artists have become a group that aren\u2019t allowed to work.
